I do not like the term
“treehugger.”
Trees symbolize death to me
instead of life.
How many more of
my brothers and sister must
wear a necklace of rope tied
to a tree for one to understand that
this is an issue?
Instead, they blame such acts on
a mental illness.
A mental disorder in which they treat
as if it is nonexistent.
As if it is nothing more than sadness
that will be cured as time passed.
Funny how our world says time heals
when we’re still trapped in 1954
leaving it to teenagers and college students
to still fix a corrupted government.
People say it was long ago,
but that was only 66 years ago!
Most people still have their grandparents
and great grandparents in their lives.
This is not a new issue.
This is the realization of the blind.
The cries of the mute.
The sounds of the deaf.
The crimes of criminals
they allowed to roam free.
The tears of colored men and women who fought
just to get a sip of water
flows within our veins.
Their apologies
“I am sorry I let you down.”
now moves us to do better for
future generations to come!
We will succeed where many failed
for that is our calling.
A generation of anxious children
now curling their knuckles.
Iron-blooded they stand
before adults armed with tear gas
and weapons.
Iron-willed they chant peacefully;
voices lifting like angels
of gospels.
Beauty lies within colors.
Beauty lies within tearful eyes
and sore throats.
Beauty lies within change.

Bride Kidnapping
This article involves the anecdote of a women explaining the way she has been oppressed. I won’t say more because when you read it you will get your answers. Hi, I’m Rabia! I’m here to tell you about the darkest night of my life. Please read till the last. So, let’s go back to the time when I was fourteen years old. After a hard day of toil at my parents land, I was having a short nap. That’s when a group of twenty year olds abducted me from my home and dragged me into the forest next to my village. Can’t you predict what happened next?
Religious Conflicts
I find it crucial to re address this matter because of how many people are being targeted & harmed just for being part of a different religious group, and the people behind these tragedies seem to be overwhelmed with the suffering of others..Having my work submitted on this site has given me an opportunity and platform to finally speak up and be heard, which is my only goal.
Clash of Empires
We think, who cares? How could those empires from thousands of years ago affect our lives today? Here’s some food for thought: What if the empires and eras of the world were in a meeting together? What would they say to each other? How would they react? And finally, what if they can’t get along? How important are the early ones to our current time and age? All good questions…
Wow your piece is so inspiring and passionate! I agree that our generation will be the one to bring and demand change. Also I absolutely love your ending!!
This is a very moving and touching piece. It calls for action, and that’s what we are trying to do on this website. I really loved the line “We will succeed where many failed for that is our calling.” as it prompts us, as the future leaders, to bring about change.
I agree! I love the way you expressed that it is up to us as the future leaders to bring change into this world . Keep up the good work!

Such an outspoken poem that really touches the heart showing that the old scars of black oppression and white supremacy are still there despite being proclaimed as gone and in the past. A great poem
