A POEM WE FAIL TO ACKNOWLEDGE.

Why do they believe it is fine?
For a girl to quiver at nine.

So, is this masculinity?
To blacken our virginity.

They do not believe in consent
Neither do they seem to repent.

A four letter word that holds fear
An action done by someone dear.

RAPE, very often neglected
Societies are not to blame
For the women dumped infected
It’s the mindsets we have to tame.

Nothing was wrong with her attire
You think so?, that’s insanity!
What’s wrong is your foolish desire
Where is the humanity?

The Case of Jayaraj and Fenix

Hi. My name is Ayushi Abhilipsa Rout. I’m a teenager from India., hoping to spread this message. The greatest virtue of humankind is humanity which is receding nowadays. My article brings up an issue about the near destruction of humanity. This issue needs more voices to call out and I hope my readers will cater to these needs.

America has gone backwards. Lynchings have returned and they all blame it on depression even though there is no record of it. This poem is written as a response of such heinous acts and how racism has been an issue since the time of our grandparents. That we will continue what we started and it will end with us.

We are often told to follow a certain norm prevalent in society, it’s like there’s this certain checklist or labels for something to be ‘perfect’. We wait for society to judge us, hanging on by a string of likes on our instagram page. But, do we really need others to define OUR perfect? Moreover, don’t our true selves lie beyond those rugged, old and boring standards? Hold yourself up and look in the mirror. Choose to be free.
