We MUST talk about Society’s Mental Health

Hello ladies and gentlemen boys and girls, today I would like to talk about mental health. Nows let’s say that I have a rotten tomato in my hand . Nobody in their right mind would eat it because it would make you sick. But we eat rotten dirty thoughts almost everyday . And you know what happens when we eat these rotten dirty thoughts? We get sick! We get depression, anxiety, outrage, suicidal thoughts, etc. Our culture’s suicidal health has normalized this sickness and fed it to us on a silver platter making us not insane but unsane. It’s no measure of health to be a well adjusted profoundly sick society.  And yes we are very sick! In fact we have become so sick, that we have to care more about our oral hygiene more than our mental hygiene . We brush and floss our teeth everyday but what about our mental hygiene? We do nothing about it, but if I was to ask you would you rather lose all of the teeth in your mouth, or would you rather lose your mind? Exactly ! You’d rather be a happy toothless mother brother if that means you get to keep yourself mentally healthy. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying you shouldn’t brush your teeth

My point is we should start treating our mental health like it deserves to be treated. We are in dire need of mental health practices and support in our society. Talking about mental health improves our communities by making it more acceptable for those suffering from mental health illnesses, and helping them to learn how to cope with it. And if we don’t have mental health practices and support in our own society, we will continue to see the devastation that we see in the world. Napoleon Hill once said and I quote “that thoughts are very powerful things.”  That means that what you see in your room around you was once a thought before it existed in this physical form. Even the devices we use to communicate with such as our Smart phones were once a thought and is now a physical reality. So if we are unhealthy in our mind, what do we create? An unhealthy world out there.  In order to heal the world out there we must first heal ourselves . My message to the government is not focusing on mental health and only changing laws is like trying to stop an overflowing sink by throwing towels on the floor. Yeah throwing towels on the floor might stop it but you’re going to use an infinite amount of towels until you get down there and fix the pipes because that’s where the problem started. So I’m saying we need to fix our mental health because this is where the problem started.

Now imagine if every school taught how to cope with rejection and anxiety, depression, or loneliness and imagine if these classes were mandatory like science or social studies. Think about how much less bullying, problems, school shootings, and even teen suicide there would be. In fact there are some schools that have started doing that . An elementary school in Baltimore  is using meditation instead of using traditional punishments. The school says the program has helped reduce behavior problems.

During this time when we are surrounded with so much negative news everywhere, I think it is more important than ever to see some positivity. Through my poem, I would like to be able to help people find a ray of optimism amidst the pandemic and see the little happiness that surrounds our everyday life.

NORMALIZING ALL BODY TYPES AND PUTTING AN END TO BODY SHAMING

Every day as youngsters we hear from our peers these clothes make me look so skinny, it’s better if you pose like this it makes you look slim. We say all this as if being a little chubby or fat is bad. Why can’t we normalize being fat? Bullying your friends for being fat doesn’t make you seem popular or cool. And this doesn’t end here; people are bullied for being skinny too. You may have been a victim or a villain. God has made us all with the same blood and flesh after all. Why not appreciate all forms of beauty?

My Purpose

What is the meaning of life? Why are we cursed to forever walk the empty hallways of life? Lights of hope flickering over head. The twisted warped hallways that pass as perfectly pristine, because that is what I show people. What we all show people. To society we are perfect. Robots, running the same routine. But why? Why is it that society judges us when we wear the mask that is society?
